Our Farewell to Jhos and Julie — and download the program!

Saturday’s farewell reception for our outgoing clergy was a beautiful and touching event that had love and appreciation flowing to and from Jhos and Julie.  In the lovely Vista room at Skylawn, filled with Marta Drury‘s and Annie Blair‘s gorgeous floral arrangements, abundant with tasty food and beverages, 80 CJC members and friends gathered to offer tribute to “J&J” and to receive their final offerings of prayers, songs, and comments of affection and appreciation.

The event, masterfully organized by Laura Alster-Martin, brought forth the best of CJC members’ artistic talents.  Among these were: Chip B. Goldstein‘s poem; Storm Russell‘s rap; Linda B. Goldstein singing “We Wish You Love”; Frank Chethik‘s Andy Warhol-styled “Manischewitz Wine J&J” painting; Paul Godwin‘s Elton John song; Amy Lansky’s presentation of all varieties Manischewitz; Nancy Margulies‘ sample murals that provided a glimpse of the grand mural that she will paint on a wall of Jhos and Julie’s new home; and tender, emotional, funny reminiscences and praise from Kerry Lobel, Marlene Stern, Sara Russell, Bonnie  Zimmerman & Evan Smith, Joel ben Izzy, Sarah Burdge & Julie Kriegler, Amy Lansky, and Cathy Hauer.  More links to tributes and more photos will be included in the next Update edition.
A wonderful brochure was also created for the event by Diane Martin, and can be viewed here.

Special appreciation also goes to Avram Frankel for his musical accompaniment; Lissin Lev Chaya and Karen Erlichman for their touching ritual; David “Hearty” Heartlife, who set up and monitored the sound system; Sam Martin for providing parts of the sound system and transportation for food and supplies; Diana Martin for creating the beautiful printed program; Linda Bea Miller for originating the remembrance book;  Julia McKeon, a member of Holy Family Church, who volunteered to keep the behind-the-scenes functions going while CJC members enjoyed the festivities; and Skylawn Memorial Park for providing the superb facilities.

Thank you also to those who contributed in various important ways to make the event the phenomenal success that it was: Nancy Baker, Diann Chethik, Rani Cochran, and Amy Lansky
