High Holy Days

Home > Past Events > High Holy Days

Our Rosh Hashanah observance was filled with joy, beautiful music, spiritual reflection and some fun surprises.  Our community showed itself to be resilient, loving and accepting. A few hardy souls even ventured to the beach for a soggy Tashlich.   Continue reading for a couple images from Rosh Hashanah.

We are still working joyfully and heartily to create High Holy Days full of meaning, wonder, spirit, music, and more for our beautiful community.  Rabbi Jane is planning many new and interesting treats for us and we’ll have many familiar readings, prayers, and melodies too. Bring your Shofar!  Big thanks to the High Holy Days Planning Team, headed by Leslie Deman, and including Kerry Lobel, Wendi Shafir, Ben Frandzel & Marie Favorini.     How about helping out as well?

Member renewals:  If you haven’t renewed your membership, NOW’s the time, since it guarantees a smooth check-in at the door.  We want to easily welcome you and your family in to the Holy Days.  If you’ll need to buy tickets for loved ones and friends, details will be in the next Update.

Volunteering: As always, we can’t do this without many hands helping out.  Thanks to all the volunteers who have already signed up ~ and we do need more!  This link takes you directly to our sign-up list.  It’s easy to use, so please join your CJC friends and have fun while doing a mitzvah for our community.

Family Service:  Rabbi Jane will lead our free Family Services with help from Annie Blair, starting at 9:30 am each day.  This will be a fun and educational time for kids and adults!

Childcare: We are sorry that we can not offer childcare; we did not get enough RSVPs to make it feasible.  Children and babies are welcome, we just ask that you step outside if you child needs a break.

Food Justice Tzedakah: This year, we ask you to support Coastside Non-Profits who provide families with much-needed food and other resources.  Please plan to bring cash or a check (payable to CJC) to place in our Food Justice Tzedakah box for Yom Kippur, and we will distribute the collected funds. Please do not bring canned foods as in past years.

And, as promised, a few images from our Rosh Hashanah observance.

On the left, Ely, who amazed us all with his sounding of the Shofar.

And our bundled crew, including Rabbi Jane and Cantor Patti preparing to cast our sins into the sea.
