Community Chavurah

The Community Chavurah is engaged in reaching out to our membership with social connection as well as reaching out with the community at large and with community activism.  This is led by Co-Chairs Linda Goldstein and/or Chip Goldstein.

On Monday evening, May 13, we are hosting a presentation by Hannah Kimel Green, J Street Northwest Regional Director. Stay tuned for details.

Linda Goldstein has been participating with Coastside Faith in Action since its start, branching off from Bay Area Faith in Action.  Several of our members at CJC are also members as is Rabbi Moshe. We have connected with Abundant Grace, ALAS, Puente, and other local churches and non-profits about affordable housing and rental protections. If interested to learn more about this endeavor, contact Linda Goldstein.

The Community Chavurah is also engaged with climate activism.  Chip Goldstein has been participating in lobbying and raising awareness for solutions to climate change that focus not only on reducing carbon emissions but on changing the underlying financial infrastructure of energy generation and consumption.  These educational sessions and action-oriented events are sponsored by Dayenu, a grassroots Jewish-centric response to the climate crisis, and by Citizens’ Climate Lobby, which is focused primarily on efforts to get the U.S. to enact a carbon tax, as 27 other countries have already done.  Chip, along with the Citizens’ Climate Lobby San Mateo County Chapter Leader, will be guest presenters at the November 17th CJC Friday night service.  There you will learn how taking action as minimal as 1-minute each week can have a positive cumulative effect to transform our world for future generations.
