For the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Coastside Jewish Community (CJC) is rolling out a new way for you to contribute financially to our community. The Board approved a new direction, moving away from a “transactional” “dues for services”  approach to one we believe more accurately reflects how we are continually building our Jewish community on the coast together

What is changing?

We are moving away from membership categories of Individual, Family, and Friend with specific financial commitments requested for each. Instead, we will now have four “Tiers” of support.

The four tiers represent different ranges of financial support so that you — our members — can decide which tier represents your situation and relationship to CJC. The new options are:

Tzedakah – Helping others [$1500 to $2000+]

Shamash – One who serves [$1200 to $1499]

Mitzvah – Good deed [$800 to $1199]

Ruach – Spirit [any amount is great]

Each level of contribution is valued and appreciated.

What do financial contributions to CJC go towards?

Financial contributions are essential to sustain and grow our thriving CJC. We have been operating in the red for 5 of the last 6 years. If each member unit contributed $1,200 – 1,500/year, CJC would become financially sustainable for now and for years to come.

The costs of operating CJC include support for: our wonderful spiritual leaders, holiday celebrations, Jewish learning, social action initiatives, and other efforts to strengthen the Jewish community on our beautiful coast.

We recognize that each person’s and family’s ability to contribute financially is different and can change over time. We also recognize that there are many additional ways people contribute to CJC, such as volunteering. We ask that you give as best you can to ensure the heart of our community thrives to support a diverse, welcoming connection to Jewish life on the Coastside.

When will the change be implemented?

You will see these changes in the membership form now, for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Please reach out to our Board if you have questions about these changes.
